Braces

The potential use of braces to straighten teeth starts with an initial consultation. If your teeth are not straight or if they are improperly spaced, you are a candidate for braces. Dial (615) 662-2191 to schedule an appointment at our office. Your initial consultation will involve an x-ray analysis and teeth evaluation. If the dentist determines you are a candidate for braces, you will have a discussion about what braces look like, what they require in terms of care and how they help your teeth straighten out just right. If necessary, spacers will be added to help prepare your mouth for the application of braces.

The dentist makes a mold of your teeth by having you bite down on a soft impression tray for a couple minutes. If necessary, the dentist will perform a digital scan of your mouth. Thankfully, the addition of braces is a painless procedure. However, the bonding appointment might take upwards of a couple hours so be sure to plan your schedule accordingly.

The placement of braces involves the insertion of a specialized device in the mouth to keep it dry and ensure the tongue remains in place. The braces are then positioned on the teeth with the use of a specialized adhesive that holds them in place. The dentist uses a curing light to harden the material, creating a bond. An arch wire is moved through the braces and held in position with ligature bands. Return to the dentist’s office as necessary and your teeth will gradually move back into the proper positions.
